What is Liposuction
Liposuction is a surgical procedure using a suction technique to get rid of fat from specific areas of the body – from the abdomen, hips, thighs or buttocks. This procedure also allows the shaping or firming up such areas. Anyone who has excessive body fat in specific spots but with a stable body weight may be considered a candidate.
After the procedure, swelling usually subsides within roughly about four weeks. At such time, the treated area should look less bulky. After several months the treated area should show a leaner appearance.
The results from a liposuction procedure in the Philippines are usually permanent given the condition that you maintain your weight. Gaining weight after the procedure will cause a change in the fat distribution. If the treated areas are your abdomen and hips, your thighs or buttocks may become problem areas if you gain weight.
The liposuction procedure starts with either a local or general anesthesia which will be advised by your surgeon. When the anesthesia has taken effect, your surgeon will perform the most common procedure in the Philippines – the Tumescent liposuction, using a suction device attached to a small, stainless steel instrument called cannula. The cannula is inserted into the target fatty areas through small incisions, between the skin and muscle where it will remove excess fat. A suction pump or a large syringe may be used for this.
Other surgeons will use Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction (UAL), where your surgeon inserts an ultrasonic energy emitting metal rod under your skin which ruptures the fat cell walls and liquefies the fat for easier removal. The length of the procedure will depend on the amount of fat to be removed.
Choosing the Best Doctor
Liposuction is considered a very common procedure sought by many in the Philippines. It is in fact one of the most availed services in the majority of the medical institutions offering plastic or cosmetic surgery. And as such presents quite a challenge in being able to choose the best doctor to perform the procedure.
Choosing the best surgeon will require due diligence on the part of the patient. Try as much to get information about the surgery clinic, the surgeon performing the procedure, board certifications and accreditations, training certifications, and track record.
Asking around about both the institution and the plastic or cosmetic surgeon will probably give you feedback or comments on the surgeon’s capabilities, integrity of the surgery facility, etc. This in effect is a good way of assessing the quality of service rendered by the surgeon and the medical institution offering the cosmetic surgery procedures.
Along with due diligence is making an assessment of the surgeon’s credibility during the initial meeting. A knowledgeable and expert surgeon will be able to respond to all questions of the patients pertinent the procedure, no matter how trivial the questions may be. Being clear and accurate about methods to be used, outcome to be expected, etc., should lead you to a highly qualified surgeon that will provide you with the required excellent service.
Aside from rhinoplasty, Dr Raynald Torres also specializes in cosmetic procedures including ultrasonic liposuction, fat transfer, tummy tuck, to name a few.
