Breast Augmentation Aftercare

· Breast Augmentation · Comments Off on Breast Augmentation Aftercare

Breast augmentation is the enhancement of breasts using implants. It gives you beautiful and full breasts, but like every other surgery, it requires a recovery time for the body to heal. The implants also need time to settle into your body.

Post-operative care entails clinic visits, a proper diet and overall care for your body as it heals. Incorrect administration of attention and care could lead to infection, scar tissue formation, and chronic pain. To avoid these, you need to follow the post-operative care as instructed by the surgeon or nurse.

After Surgery

After surgery, you will experience some feelings; these will be both physical and emotional feelings. You are likely to have grogginess when you wake from the surgery due to anesthesia. Patients may experience nausea and vomiting, especially if general anesthesia was used.

To combat nausea, your doctor can give you anti-nausea medication. Tiredness and constipation are two of the most common feelings you will have after surgery. Other accompanying feelings that may occur are breast engorgement and tightness in the chest. You will also have stiffness in the morning which dissipates when you walk around.

Activities to Avoid

As you will have gotten additions to your body, it is important for you to ease up on physical activities. Avoid sleeping on your stomach or sides for six weeks. You are also not allowed to perform any vigorous activity that will cause your breasts to bounce. The bouncing can dislodge the implants or even cause the wounds to burst open. In this light, you cannot raise your arms higher than the shoulders. Refrain from lifting your breasts to check them. Taking a bath a few days after the surgery is allowed, just make sure that you pat dry the surgical wounds.

Clothes to Wear Post-Op

You will need to have comfortable clothes that you can keep on till you build your strength up to take them off. Sweatpants are an excellent option to have on as they easily slip on and off. Cotton underpants will be necessary for use during the operating day and beyond. A hoodie will also come in handy because it lets you slip it off without raising your hands. Slip-on shoes work wonders as you want to eliminate any struggle.

Clothes to Avoid Post-Op

Be sure to avoid an underwire bra as it may injure you and stunt your healing. Keep away from bras for about two months, or until your surgeon has given you the signal to wear them. In the post-op period, you will have a surgical bra securing you and keeping the implants in the right place. Avoid tight fitting clothes when recovering as they will inhibit the healing process.

Post-Op Foods

You will be nauseated immediately after your operation. Keep your meals light for a few days, focusing mainly on fluids like soups, juices, and water. You can also have mashed potatoes and jello as an option till your body can tolerate heavier food. Anti-inflammatory foods are imperative as they promote healing in the body. Foods rich in antioxidants and essential oils are highly beneficial as well. These foods include vegetables, fruits, grains, nuts, and fish. Supplements also work well to offer whatever nutrients are lacking.
